Ukrainian folk art has been one of the primary means of passing down life experiences from generation to generation for thousands of years. It represents the cultural heritage of our people, distinguishing us from other nationalities and defining our identity as Ukrainians.
The main goal is to introduce children to Ukrainian culture, traditions, and crafts, fostering respect for national heritage, developing creativity and manual skills, and supporting the preservation of Ukrainian identity.
It is essential to instill in children respect for and the importance of preserving Ukraine’s cultural legacy. To achieve this, we actively engage artists and craftsmen to conduct practical workshops and organize a variety of masterclasses in handicrafts and cooking. We also hold interactive lessons using games, storytelling, reading folk tales, and watching videos to familiarize children with the culture and traditions of the Ukrainian people. Additionally, we organize joint thematic events involving students’ families.
Through this comprehensive approach to learning, children gain a deeper understanding of family values, culture, customs, and traditions. They also expand their knowledge of folk crafts, their native land, seasonal celebrations, traditional toys, national dishes, and traditional Ukrainian clothing.
Our educational institution uses a wide range of materials for workshops and crafts, including clay, straw, fabric, canvas, threads, paints, books, folk tales, and songs about Ukrainian culture.
Teaching and nurturing children’s appreciation for folk art is vital. It creates a meaningful connection with their ancestors, encourages imaginative thinking, fosters aesthetic appreciation, and instills a desire to learn more about their roots and heritage. It also helps children develop respect for the traditions of the Ukrainian people and equips them with creative thinking skills they can apply throughout their lives.
